Student AI Engineer

Join our team and help build applied AI systems for media intelligence: AI workflows, Python development, on-prem LLM deployments and harness engineering.

About the position

Are you the kind of person who is excited to work with new language models and always pushing coding agents to their limits? In Retriever’s AI Solutions team, we build applied AI systems used in production workflows across media intelligence products and internal tooling.

As our new Student AI Engineer, you will work hands-on with LLM workflows, coding agents, retrieval systems, and on-prem inference infrastructure. You will help turn fast-moving AI ideas into reliable production systems used across Retriever and by customers throughout the Nordics.

Your key responsibilities

You will take on responsibilities that bridge the gap between fast prototyping and production deployments.

  • Build AI workflows that automate real business problems and can reliably run in production.
  • Work with harness engineering to automate, monitor and accelerate development workflows.
  • Build RAG systems on internal data using vector search, keyword search, and reranking.
  • Use Python to develop AI systems across products and internal tooling.
  • Help deploy, monitor and optimize inference systems for local LLM deployments.

About you

We are looking for someone who enjoys building things, learning new tools, and turning ideas into working systems.

We would like to hear from you if you…

  • are currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s program in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, Software Engineering or a related technical field
    Ideally, you are in the later stages of your bachelor’s or master’s degree
  • have strong proficiency in Python and care about clean, modular and testable code.
  • are highly proficient with AI-assisted coding and use tools such as Claude Code and/or Codex to accelerate your workflows.
  • are excited about AI, but not blinded by it, and can reason clearly about when not to use it.

Nice to have:

  • Experience training local models and optimizing inference.
  • Familiarity with AI SDKs, LLM observability or tracing tools such as Langfuse or LangSmith.
  • Experience with AWS, vector search engines such as Vespa, or workflow orchestration tools such as Prefect.
  • Experience with LLM frameworks such as LangChain or LlamaIndex, prompt engineering, agents, RAG or model evaluation.
